Eirian teaches a mixture of Yoga styles from Vinyasa Flow – a beautifully creative, dance-like style that links movement with breath, to Yin Yoga – a slow, grounding, deeply meditative style of practice. Her Mandala model of Vinyasa Flow also works closely with Energetic Bodywork, Chakra and Elemental theories.
Finding the balance between Yin and Yang...
All forms of Yoga can be described as Yin or Yang based on which tissues of the body they target. A practice that focuses on exercising the muscles and moving blood is Yang. A practice that focuses on connective tissues is Yin. Cooling Yin Yoga is the perfect complement to the more fast paced, muscle contracting and blood pumping Yang like styles of Yoga, and an extremely subtle and profound practice on its own.
At the retreat the two styles of yoga will be intelligently blended together through a firm intention, such as an element (Fire, Air, Water, Earth) or Chakra.
The more Yang like - Mandala Vinyasa Flow will be taught in the morning.
You will begin the practice with a breathing exercise (pranayama) and meditation. Following the main structure of Ashtanga Vinyasa, The Yang like Mandala Sun Salutes will move you in a spiralling way, 360 degrees around the mat – honouring the spiral patterns that nature uses to shape and create all the material and energetic substances in our bodies. In the Standing / Seated section of flow, the poses will continue massaging the group of muscles focused on as you move towards a peak pose. In the closing sequence, you will make the transition from the outside to the inside, reaching a feeling of introspection as you seal in your energy through a deep, meditative Shavasana.
After a day in the sunshine, indulge in the cooling practice of Yin Yoga - a quieting, grounding, meditative practice designed to deeply stretch and rejuvenate the body whilst calming the mind. You will begin the practice with a guided meditation leading into a series of Yin style floor postures targeting the deeper connective tissues, held passively for several minutes at a time.
In our Western culture we often live is a very Yang-like state of being : full of stress, burn-out and depletion. During this class we will explore how to use yoga, meditation and your breath to calm your sympathetic nervous system (fight or flight) and move into your parasympathetic (rest and digest) mode.
The postures will be simple and accessible to everyone, but this does not mean that the practice will be easy; there will be some challenging moments.
The total cost of this 5 day retreat starts at £660 depending on accommodation, this can be paid either by back transfer or card payment over the phone.
